Slow Cooker II

For the second time this month, I am cooking in a slow cooker. I usually do it on my days off, when I have no big plans. I also have to have the time to go to Save On Foods as there is usually one or two items that I am missing from the recipe taken from the slow cooker book. Today I am making Orange Glazed Carrots. Here are the ingredients:

32 oz. package of baby carrots
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp margarine
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
3/4 tsp. Cinnamon
2 Tbsp. corn starch
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Here is the procedure: Mix everything except starch and water in a slow cooker. Cook on Low for 3-4 hours. Transfer the carrots to a dish; keep the leftover juice. Transfer the juice to a small pan, add the water and the cornstarch bring to boil and pour over the carrots.

Harrison Hot Springs

I have spent my weekend at Harrison Hot Springs. We left the appartment at 10 on Saturday morning, had Super Hunger Buster breakfast at IHOP and headed for Harrison. By the time we got to highway #1 it was raining cats and dogs. It's no fun driving in such condition at 120 km/h with big trucks around, but we managed to get to Harrison unharmed. We headed for the Harrison Hot Spring Hotel right away and fortunately there was one room free due to cancelation. We have made no reservation since the reservation required to book the room for two days but we only wanted to stay one. We took our chance that when we get there there is going to be something available, and luckly it worked out. We didn't care much for the surroundings, and didn't go on any hikking trips, but managed to for for a short walk to the sources of the springs. But what we missed in hikking we made up in soaking and eating. Our whole trip could be summarized as a care free session of eating, and soaking. In that time I think we ate weeks worth of food and went to the springs four times for at least an hour in the 24 hours of our stay. It was nice to get out of town and experience the change of scenery.

Car Repairs

After about one month of rattling muffler we are finally doing something about it. The car repair shop said that it would cost $200, but my friend John said that he will do it for us and we have to pay only the cost of muffler. Yesterday he took off the old muffler, and went to buy a new one, but the store was closed. So, as it stands now I am driving without muffler. The car is making horibble noise, but hey at least I am saving about $100. I might be going there tonight to put the new muffler on, before I got to class tonight.

Empire Strikes Back

Last week we have seen no interuption from BCGEU, but I think they were just planning when and where to strike. Today Kwanlten is part of that plan which means no classes. Finally, it has happened on a day of my most difficult class; Distributed Systems. I am still reading the book for the class, but found some time to contribute to my Blog. Let's just say I am on my study break.
Well, I guess it's time to get back to the grind.

Gay Uncle

This morning I was videoconferencing with my uncle and his boyfriend in Slovakia. I showed them my blog and after few seconds that it took them to scan through the different headings Kamil shouted in to the microphone: "Hey, where is a post about your gay uncle." Well, dear Kamil here you have it. I dedicate this post to you, my favorite gay uncle.

Slow Cooker

I am becoming quite the slow cooker cook. Today I am making a form of "Sloppy Joe". It's good thing I have a recepe book specially for slow cookers to follow, or I would be totaly lost. The book is called Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook. It's an American book so all the measurements are in imperial, but I have learned to convert. Sometimes I just guestimate, but don't tell anybody who is going to eat it.
